3rd birthday party, JUNGLE theme. Do we need activities or not?

Winter party (end Jan) otherwise I'd just let them run riot in the garden. We have a reasonable space, but not huge. I'm wary of actual party games or anything too structured, as I don't think I'd be a great 'playleader' and I'm not sure DD1 or her friends (some of whom are younger) really 'get' party games, esp ones where players have to be 'out' one by one.

Pass the parcel? Pinata? (Or are they too similar?)

Just a couple of hours I think so tea and cake should take up a bit of time ...

Any really simple ideas related to the jungle theme would be particularly welcome

We didn't do organised games for dd's third birthday - the kids didn't really "get" them. They liked pass the parcel, although most of them didn't really get what they had to do, and they enjoyed the pinata too (would recommend a pullina one where the children pull strings though, the pinatas are really difficult to bash open) but otherwise they just played.

you could do musical statues/bumps type thing but each time the music stops they have to pretend to be an animal.

A hunt around the room for toy jungle animals?

Pass the parcel always good time filler even if half the kids don't quitee get it. You get 100% fruit bars that have some jungly theme or name. They could be the presents for each round of pass the parcel.

IIRC for my DSs' theird parties I had ione or two games - pass the parcel and a treasure hunt (v basic - got some Christams snap cards very cheaply after Xmas, stuck a packet of buttons to one of each set and hid them, put the name of each child on the other one and they had to find their pair), have the party at lunchtime or tea time so they are actually hungry and the rest of the time, just let them play.

sing walking through the jungle

hide and seek game / treasure hunt with toy animals
