Camping sleepover party for 8 yr old DS?? Or something else?

DS is 8 in a couple of weeks. We've gone through loads of party ideas and the only one he is keen on is a bushcraft party (led by a qualified person)- this costs a fortune and we don't feel confident doing it ourselves.

I wondered about a small camping sleepover in the garden. I've mentioned the idea to him and hes v keen....i was thinking we could have sausages on the barbeque, games outside (wearing headtorches) ending with the 5 of them sleeping in a tent in the garden. DH would sleep in another tent next to them.

But....DS has never had a sleepover before.....I would email the parents first to see if they're happy with the idea. we know them all reasonably well but we're not friends really.

Am i crazy? Please tell me what you think and suggest alternatives if poss.

ps it might be cold as it would be late sept.

As a parent of a guest, I would be worried that they would be cold! No problem though if they can move indoors and set up camp/sleep on the floor if it does though.

They would probably like toasting marshmallows on the BBQ too. And maybe get some sparklers.

Thanks for your thoughts leeds. My friends have told me it will be hellish so I'm rethinking...
But don't know what to do!!
