So DD is 7 in a few weeks and she wants a charile and the chocolate factory party. She loves the book and both films.
We have booked our local hall for the day and we have ordered the cake.

But we really need some more ideas on what to do with it.
We are thinking of getting a bouncy castle and/or a bouncy slide and a chocolate fountain, but we could really use some input on what to do as I'm not that creative and DH isn't either.

Chocolate piñata? Pass the parcel with golden tickets which the children exchange for prizes?

In Roald Dahls Revolting Recipes there is a lovely idea of ice cream soda float which he claims will have the children floating around the ceiling and will have to burp if they want to come back down. Kids usually love this.

Have a look at this too Smile

Thank you so much. The golden tickets idea will be great fun and that web link looks really good.

Y4 in my school did Charlie and the chocolate factory. For decoration they made giant sweets by blowing up balloons, wrapping in cellophane / tissue paper and tying both ends. The chn could perhaps make and decorate Mr wonka hats for a non - food activity? Play a game where the oompah loompas (chn) have to get across the chocolate river (floor) without contaminating it, and they can only stand on marshmallows (paper plates). Have actual giant marshmallows with melted chocolate and a variety of sprinkles - chn can decorate them as another activity. And Def golden tickets for invitations!

Have you looked on Pinterest? So many great party ideas on there!

Google it, loads of ideas, which I can't all recall. We had a Dahl party with lots of foods from the revolting recipes book, and a quiz (again loads of stuff found on the internet). One fun detail were "sweets that look round": I found some cube-shaped colourful lollipops, and we added stick-on googly eyes, and displayed them in a upside down pierced box like cake pops. They were a hit as going-away presents.

This is probably a ridiculous idea that would take a huge amount of time but if you really wanted to get into it - recreate the flavoured wallpaper idea!. Take some of those fruit strips (I can't remember what they're called) bit those compressed fruit things that come in a roll - you could cut them into the fruit shape and stick them to a big roll of paper so the children could lick them.

As I'm writing this I realise how silly and time and effort - intensive it would be to set up but if you were really going for it it could be an idea.

(Slinks away to address my love of CATCF and remind myself it was fiction).

Ooh ooh! (Totally excited!) I did this for DS when he was 7! I made big sweeties for decoration. Made a big fat violet beureguard and blue up balloons with "wonka wonga" and spraying sprinkles inside for the kids to pop, like pin the tail on the donkey. The wonka wonga was used to get little gifts at the end, I had loads from the pound shop. I had a Charlie buckets bucket and they had to get the paper in the bucket to get wonga. I made golden tickets and tied them like scrolls, made up a contract for them to sign and bought loadsa sweets. Their party bags were left over sweets and toothbrushes!! I can maybe find some photos if that would help??

I also got a mate to make me a cd with all the songs on

Bloody sweetie making for weeks before hand!!

WhatAHooHa · 03/09/2015 20:04

There are some ideas for a Charlie party here. Elsewhere on that site are a few of the revolting recipes including the ice cream soda mentioned above. Could you do a chocolate fountain with chocolate milk? So they could actually fill cups to drink from it rather than just dipping marshmallows etc in. Maybe one of each?! Definitely gobstoppers, fab idea.
Chupa chup do those mega lollies which are filled with smaller lollies around Xmas, could you find some of them to have around?

HawkEyeTheNoo · 03/09/2015 20:04

I can't post anymore pictures OP but I've got the balloon popping idea and a couple of others. I can pm you. The sweeties were two paper plates taped together and coloured cellophane around them .

bellheart · 03/09/2015 20:10

Oh wow some amazing ideas here. Please pm me with pictures and ideas.

I know one of the London hotels does a Charlie & the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea, to fit in with the theatre production. Might be worth having a look at what they serve for food.
