Hello all. Would be very grateful for advice. DD2 wants a dog theme for her 7th birthday next month. She'll just be having about 5 friends at a do at our house. I'm planning for them to make soft toy dogs (Build a Bear type kits) and will try and get a dog cake. She also wants a dog themed pass the parcel Hmm. Has anyone got any ideas for games / food? I'll get dog themed plates etc. and was thinking of bone shaped sandwiches. I was thinking they could maybe make dog cupcakes but all the ones I've found look too difficult for me six / seven year olds. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

You must be able to get dog cake toppers. Could they decorate a cupcake with those??

Canshopwillshop · 14/09/2014 10:14

Hot dogs ...

giddly · 14/09/2014 10:18

Ooh - hot dogs, great idea. Will also look for dog toppers. Thanks!

Use a bone shaped cookie cutter for biscuits and sandwiches. Dog onesies for party bag favours.

Pin the collar on the dog.

Lovely ideas - will definately do the cookie cutter and pin the collar!

Check Pinterest it has lots of dog themed party ideas Smile

Was just going to say pin the tail on the dog! You can play Who Let The Dogs out for pass the parcel music. Have you looked at the online shop of places like Dogs Trust? That might give you ideas

giddly · 14/09/2014 10:42

Great ideas! Will check out dog's trust and Pinterest (although a lot of the Pinterest ideas are way beyond my abilities!).

I've also found a dog shaped pull-string pinata!

'Adopt a dog' get them to choose from a selection of dog plushies (Poundshop style) and they can give it a name maybe fill out a 'certificate'?

giddly · 16/09/2014 22:10

Certificate's a great idea - we're doping build a bear style dogs so they can adopt it (we have a rescue dog so DD big on this)

Doing, not doping. I would imagine that is illegal.

Food:
Love the hotdog idea! I have also seen cookie cutter sets with a dog house, fire hydrant and bone shapes.

Games:
This page has a number of dog themed games for ideas
www.queen-of-theme-party-games.com/dog-themed-birthday-party.html

Decor:
If you are up to some DIY, you can search for a dog paw template (or draw it free hand) and make paw shaped cut outs in black card, stick these on the wall and ceiling with blue tack and it’ll look like a dog (or dogs) walked on the walls and ceiling! Make them really big for a dramatic effect.

You can also get some paw printed balloons to tie up your theme even more.

Finally:
Saw this pic whilst doing my research, think it’ll make great wording for your invite

Hope this helps :)

Hunt the rather than hunt the thimble
Fido says, instead of Simon Says
Sleeping doggies instead of sleeping lions
Bet there are doggie top trumps as a pass the parcel prize, or 101 Dalmatians?

Would be tempted to put food in bowls on the floor, and tell them they're not allowed on the furniture ... oh, and no chocolate - bad for dogs Grin

CQ · 24/09/2014 15:38

Oooh yes, food in bowls on the floor and they're not allowed to use their hands to eat!! Maybe a plastic sheet on the floor under the bowls…….
