make one up?

Tommy · 22/09/2006 13:46

try googling friendship quotes and it will give you loads. I did that and phone a couple of things to write in a friend's card when she emigrated but not the same situation as yours so they wouldn't be relevant!

Mum2Ela · 22/09/2006 13:51

helsy no no no! Couldn't possibly do that!

Ok, went with Tommy's suggestion (thanks) and found quite a few.

I like these:

'Love is rarer than genious itself. And friendship is rarer than love': Charles Peguy

'A friend is one who knows us, but loves us anyway' : Jerome Cummings

"A true friend is someone
who thinks that you are a good egg
even though he knows
that you are slightly cracked."
~Bernard Meltzer~

"Truly great friends are hard to find,
difficult to leave,
and impossible to forget."
~G. Randolf~

What do you think?

Do you mind if I bump this to see what people think!

I like the egg one but think the last one is a bit schmaltzy TBH but then that's coming from someone who put

"How lucky I am to have known someone to whom it is so hard to say goodbye..."

on my friend's card

Mum2Ela · 22/09/2006 14:27

I like the egg one too.

Tommy I think the one you wrote on your friends card is sweet!

Don't know how to add a link, but this is one we had at our wedding...

from Gift From The Sea
Anne Morrow Lindbergh (b.1906)

When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.

The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.

Guess it might be a bit intense for friends, but depends on your friendship...

Mum2Ela · 22/09/2006 15:49

Mumpbump I think its lovely. Just a little long for me to use.
