help! dd's 1st birthday. what do i do?

my dd turns 1 in 3 weeks and i wanted to have a party but it would be grown up relatives/friends and a couple of toddlers, possible with their older siblings.
what do i do? do i just make a cake and something for lunch?
dh doesnt have any family in the uk so i want to video the day and send to the in-laws but i dont really know many people to invite to make a party.
i know dd probably wont even remember the day but i still want it to be special.
i cant believe im worrying so much about it all, i realise i must sound a bit daft

not daft at all, you have to make things special for you as well as her! we just had a family thing for ds 1st, invite whoever in a drop in between these times way and don't worry about it! x

1st birthdays. Eek. I did lunch & birthday cake with my lovely post-natal mummy friends. If DD likes singing you could sit her & the toddlers on the floor and lead them through a few nursery rhymes or songs - if you're really brave you could give them some percussion instruments - saucepan lids and bottles of dried beans if necessary. If you're very shy about singing in front of everyone use a CD player! It will make the video a bit more interesting. Games are a non-starter at this age although batting the hell out of a sparkly helium balloon goes down well - just don't let them bite it!

thanks a lot for you suggestions. she loves balloons so that definately a good idea and cheap ish! she's a right little show off so i might do that and put cd on, she'll probably just dance about for ages which will be entertaining for adults at least!

We/ve done pub lunches for both dds and they were great!
