Booking the church.

We have decided where we are having our reception for our Oct 08 wedding and will probably book that quite soon because they are the sort of place that gets booked up WAY in advance.

I am nervous about booking a reception when I don't have a church booked. So I asked my mum about ringing the priest and she said I was being ridiclous (she is the main reason we are booking reception now - cos SHE is panciking).

The church is the one in the town where I grew up, so I don't attend it regularly, but my priest from my church says he will support me getting married there - write a letter etc.

So what do I do? Just wait until we are a year away and give the priest a ring and hope he can fit us in?? Or will it not be an issue.

It would be a sat wedding at probably 1pm.

Ring the priest now. Apart from other bookings you need to know if they are planning to have scaffolding all over the steeple/no loos/half-painted Lady Chapel etc.
Just sound him out if you feel it is OTT to ask about a booking per se. Make sure you drop the letter of support into the conversation as soon as possible so he knows you are a committed Christian.
IME it's a mother's designated duty to tell her daughter that her wedding plans are ridiculous at least once Ignore!

I'd sort the church out first - make sure you can get the wedding date you want before you go booking up your reception venue. Better to book it up now than leave it for a year and then find that you can't get the date and time that you want.

The time will go past so fast it's not funny! Book the church now then at least you know you've got the two "biggies" out of the way on your to do list

Exactly, thats how I feel, even if he laughs and tells me to ring back in a year, at least he knows that someone out there wants a wedding for 25th Oct 08!!

My mum said I was being silly, but to me the church is the most important part of the day, the reception is just a party and I need the church I don't need the party kwim?

Its a catholic church as well and some priests can be a bit funny, hope its not an issue, I am a practising Catholic and my dp is a christian.

If I were you I would not ask if you can "book the church" for a wedding as Catholic priests prefer to be asked "Could we come and talk to you about getting married?" - and I don't blame them
