Its raining.....party for 5 year old - any original partty games?

I was hoping for an outside party, but the august weather has let us down! Furniture will be pushed out of the way, and I will have 20 5 year olds invading my home. Mostly girls, biut some boys. Any ideas for fun party games, will be doing the usual pass the parcel, musicval bumps, but would really appreciate some original ideas??

Sorry I can't really help...can only think of the ones that you have mentioned however I think we are going to have the same problem as you on Saturday! I look at responses with interest.

If you have some adults to help a treasure hunt goes down well. Some simple clues which the adults can help them read and small teams of say 4 children working together to get the prize. You can use the hosue and garden to hide the clues. Musical statues is good as well.

Can't think of many...musical chairs/statues,
hunt the thimble,
flapping fish race (cut fish shapes out of thin card/paper, give LOs larger sheet of card to "flap" the fish with - first one to get their fish into the "pond" (blue sheet of paper/card/towel) is the winner)
Passing games (children in 2 lines - 1st one passes ball over their head, next one between legs etc. Last child in line gets ball and runs to front of line to start all over again. When everyone has ben to front, everyone sits down. 1st team to sit down wins)

Pin the tail on the donkey (or creature of your choice)

Decorate your own party bag/box (excellent at beginning of party providing there's someone around to fill the bags whilst party is going). My favourite game of all is Dead Lions - but I have boys and it calms them down after rushing about and stops fights.

sleeping lions is good for just before the food IMO.

anyone able to remind me exactly how to play sleeping lions? is it the one where you cover one child up and they all have to guess who it is?

You will definitly need sleeping lions with 20 kids to calm down, you do know what you are doing dont you

They all lie down and they are not allowed to move while an adult walks around the room looking for any movement. If anyone moves they are disqualified. Last one lying there is the winner. You can drag this out for ages with 20 kids but I think they will get bored before you get to the end.

If you can I would split them in two groups and get another adult to judge too.

DONT LET THE PARENTS DUMP THE KIDS AND RUN EITHER.

sleeping lions - all children lie on floor still, anyone who moves is out. you go round and try to make them laugh if all still for ages.

mumy wrapping game is fun.
Two teams (or more) each team has to wrap an adult in loo roll. Winning team to be judged by a parent. Kids think it hilarious.
Second a treasure hunt.
we had a colouring table at DD's party (but it was in a hall so lots of room) which was a big hit. Printed out stuff from t'internet on the party theme (knights and princesses actually, but anything would do).
chocolate eating game? (sit in a circle with dice, first to throw a six puts on gloves, hat, scarf and eats malteser with a spoon. As soon as someone throws another six it's their turn. This didn't go so well at DD's party but I think I was losing it by ten

thanks for that! my panicking is making me forgetful.

I have my mum and mil, and my dh is here. also got 2 older children (friends) 12 and 10 who will be helping. I am alos cheating because I have an entertainer for the first hour. I think I am more worried about space and carpets! I have got these lovely liottle lunch boxes for the picnic in the garden, which will now be in the playroom with a big shhet on the floor.

I think a very large glass of red wine will be required once the party is over!

could you rope in the older children to do face painting/nail varnishing? can just be a simple flower/heart on cheek, or england flag, rather than full face - my children love this.

Some great ideas here. We have bouncy castle ordered, but if the weather is anything like the forecast on the bbc website that will be a waste of money. Still it forecast rain here today and it warm and sunny! fingers crossed.
