Is it common for people not to reply when you text to accept a party invite???

From my experience people people normally say thanks for letting me know etc and great. I'm a bit miffed as this is the same mum who ds invited to his party the other week only for them to reply and say yes and not turn up no explaination. A week later they've invited ds to their party I've text to say ds would love to come sorry your dd didn't make ds party hope all ok and I've heard nothing back. I just feel bloody awkward. I do not know the mum either.

I get why the comms is uncomfortable & the no-show was irritating, but I don't think I'd let it bother me.

I wouldn't reply because I'm on a truly PAYG phone (no goody bags) so

  • it would cost me 10p to text
  • my phone is usually off so by the time I see your msg it's probably days later & doesn't seem immediate
  • I am the world's slowest texter, tortuous to reply.

That's ok then it just seemed a bit weird not to reply and I like to know my text was recieved iywim. Yes a bit annoying they didn't turn up but a text to say sorry I forgot or I had the wrong day would just be polite. I guess we are all different.

I wouldn't reply, id just put a tick against the Childs name on my list.

I do reply but I wouldn't think twice about not receiving a reply to an rsvp text, some people just don't send texts unless they have something concrete to say. Maybe the mum is embarrassed about the no-show for your DS's party. In the seven years that I have been doing parties for my DCs, I have come to realise that what I would consider 'normal' party etiquette definitely doesn't apply across the board! Not much surprises me anymore when it comes to children's parties!

Thank you guitar girl I think I am still on a learning curve with this one!!! Thank god I don't have to arrange any parties for another year you have to be a master of all ticks and being a mind reader is def one of them!!!!
