5 year old birthday party at home

DS2 is 5 next month.

He had big village hall party last year & there are a lot them in reception. However he didn't really like it.

He has 2 or 3 close friends so thought I might just invite them for tea instead.

I have guilt about this, that I should be trying harder.

What can I do, at home, to make it really special.

He's very into Superheroes at the moment.

We had a small party at home last year - girls party so they made teddy bears... sorry not really a boy thing but a party at home with a few friends, yummy food - I did ice cream and sweets so they could pick their own toppings (bit like ice cream factory in pizza hut).

I would chat to ds and see what he wants. My dd turns 6 next month and since a week after her last party she's been on about a "mini-beast party". All her friends are having Princess parties so it's definitely be different but she's adamant. She wanted to take a load of friends to the local country park to look for bugs but that sounded like a nightmare for me to keep them all safe (I also have toddler twins who would be with me!) so we've got a guy coming with insects and snakes to do a show for an hour, and I've booked a small hall.

If it's at home just remember you'll have a few over-excited boys so plan some fun activities and you can decorate with balloons to make it feel special without it being a full on party.

Do whatever you think ds will enjoy.
