Party bags for 5yo party

Having spent nearly half a day reading through all the wonderful threads I have practically sorted DD's 5th birthday party. Lots of lovely ideas for games later and DD is really excited. Should mention that her birthday isn't until October but I like to plan early

Anyway, love the idea of books instead of party bags. The only thing is that I won't know many of the children at this party very well as DD is starting reception in Sept and will have only been there for 4 weeks or so.

I thought I could get the Rainbow Magic books for the girls and hope they're all girlie. I think they seem to cover quite a wide range of ages as DD reads them and so does the 8yo across the road! TBP does a set of 7 for £7 so that's £1 each. But what about the boys? I know TBP do sets of 10 books for £10 but I don't know if the ones in 0-5 would be too young or the 5-10 too old. Are there any Rainbow Magic equivalents out there for boys?
£1 a book would be ideal.

I got these for party bags for dd's 5th birthday - the kids all loved them, even the girls! 12 books for £8.99 - which I thought was brilliant value.

Usborne farmyard tales?

Thanks. The I wonder why books look great. I wasn't sure of the age for the farmyard tales book?

ds got the farmyard tales set before his third birthday so maybe a bit young for a 5 yo?

Dd hated the Farmyard Tales ones; she had them when she was about 3 but she found the stories dull. I got them out again once she started reading but by then the stories seemed too young for her.

Have ordered a few sets of the party fairies books from Red House and one set of the I wonder why ones from TBP. There's only 9 boys in the new reception class! And 21 girls!! Thanks for the tip. Won't tell DH I've already sorted the party bags. He'll think I don't have enough to do!

thanks for this thread!! am just shamelessly jumping in for ideas as my dd is also 5 in october and starts reception in september and have organised party but just started thinking about party bags - love the book idea would never have thought of it so thanks!

With a bit of luck it won't have caught on yet, so I'll be in front of the game. I do like to do things a bit differently and be a bit innovative.

A question about the book club. Are they one of these ones that send you a book every month Editors Choice?

no skribble, it's The Book People or The Red House, they do bargainous books, especially big sets you can split, and you never have to buy any more.
For eg I got 5 I think of those Usborne "Fairy Things to Make and Do" (and other similar) for about £6, normally £5 each, perfect for girlie prezzies.
I gave one of a set of 8 fairytales at DD's 5th party in June, they were boxed up for I think £6 so I bought four boxes and have some left over. This did for boys or girls (boys can read/be read Dick Whittington, right?). Previously I have used some mini Usborne non-fiction books in the same way. Also got a load of Oxford reading Tree books last year which were very popular.

Oh good lots of good packs of books for christmas, I used to buy from red house but had bad experiences with another company. Like World Books, Mango, BFC e6tc they hook you in with great offers then make you buy so many in a year and send editors choice if you don't tick the box, drives you mad.

Oh no skribble, I've been there, agree it's a nightmare of unsolicited books you don't want but have to pay for or send back....
