Birthday presents for 9 year old dd1. Any suggestions?

DD1 will be 9 in a couple of weeks and am at a loss as to what to tell family when they ask me what she wants. (She doesn't know either so that's no help!) I usually have loads of ideas but not this year for some reason.

Tamagotchi version 3 is the latest craze amongst my 9 yr old dd and her friends.

All the little girls that I know of that age love girly things. I tend to buy my neices things from Accessories (they do a kids "little angels" version of stuff that is not too tarty)

What about nice glittery pads and pens, or I know that Bratz is popular as well.

Otherwise I send money - I know that's a bit of a cop out but then they can spend it on what they want. I know at that age I just loved getting mney (well who doesn't!)

Does she have any way to play music inher room? CD player or similar. M 10yr old dd was really desperate for an ipod last year - she saved loads of pocket money and had contributions from grandparents. It has proved to be a really well used gift - she listens to music and books, and listens through idog in her room.

Also nintendogs is the hit girl toy here at the moment (plays on a nintend DS

A pink tent from Millet's - my 9 yr old dd's fave present ever! Or a trip to Claire's with a £10 note to spend on whatever frivolous little nothings she fancies!

Good ideas thanks. Maybe a Claires voucher (is there such a thing?) would be a good thing to ask for - always feel a bit cheeky asking for actual money iyswim!! She has more pads/pencils etc than a stationery shop unfortunately! She likes Accessorize too (I just don't like the price tags!). She has a cd player so maybe music - hmmm.

My dd is also 9 in a week or 2. She too is hopeless!
She is getting a watch, some furniture for her Sylvanian house (yes she still likes that), books, incl boxed set of Malory Towers, Top Trumps, a backpack for swimming/taking her stuff in for holidays, a cycle helmet.
Thats stuff I know about!
My dd is not into music particularly. We have the radio on all the time, so she enjoys P&Q in her room.

If i could shamelessly hijack this thread, I would like present ideas for a 10 year old girl - the dd of a friend. I know she does not like girly things, but that is all!

Why is it so hard I wonder?!
I think we should just present IOUs which they can redeem when they want expensive trainers, designer clothes and £50 a month on their mobile phones It'll be upon us before we know it.

my 10 year old got W.I.T.C.H. books - which she loves, varios crafty stuff, bracelets - all the usual. I think its a funny age because they still like old and young things. cute and cuddly still always goes down well here.

My DD is a very mature 8 year old who had her birthday last week - so here is what she got!

Some new clothes - TKMaxx
Gift vouchers for next and WHsmith
A nail station - nail polish - a nail dryer and some nail jewels and glitter (big hit)
A bratz styling head
A hair beading set.
A bear warehouse rabbit and rabbit clothes (eye rolling emotion)
A nintendo DS game
Sims2 PC game.
She got loads of cash from rellies - no idea what she will spend it on - might get banked!

Just had another thought - how about a magazine subscription?

magazine subscription v. good idea. DD and DS share one - and really love it! Also so nice that the gift comes every month.
