Hi, DS wants his 9th birthday to be at home (small house, small garden!), and is keen on a minecraft theme. Maybe 8-9 boys. Can get my head round minecrafty food, but what games can you suggest? I thought a themed treasure hunt but am a bit stumped for anything else! Don't want it to be too regimented but there needs to be something!! Last year we had a nerd battle and it was so much fun. Can anyone who know minecraft think of any games that could be good?

Could you make a piñata like one of the animals with a sword or axe to hit it with?
If you have the space you could make a dark space (nighttime) and have zombies, skeletons, creepers etc. Then hide lots of little prizes and time them to find them, like an Easter egg hunt.

Yes I could make a minecraft piñata - good idea! Btw I meant nerf battle not nerd battle in my post!

Cops and Robbers - Minecraft edition?

Have asked ds. We are struggling to come up with games.

Could you do some junk modelling with different colour boxes to make an item for a minecraft world? use these

and these

Print out some patterned paper and make a big collage or small individual ones?

Pinterest is full of Minecraft ideas....search for (oddly enough!!) Minecraft Party!

Normal games, but be creative with the names...

Creeper tag (instead of tag...whoever is on is the creeper)

Hide and seek Steve etc?

I dunno!!!

What about getting some large kindling/huge lollipop sticks and getting them to make Minecraft pick axes. And use them to stab water balloons in the garden? All 9 yr olds love water balloons.

Some good ideas here.
Also loads if you google mine craft party.

Treasure hunt - depending on how creative you are feeling you could make 'iron' or 'gold' axes etc.

Green everything. Balloons, water balloons, cakes.
Everything cut into small squares. sandwiches, cakes. What about making a tray of jelly, cutting it into squares. And making them race, to eat say 3 squares, off a plate, hands behind backs.

These are great ideas - thanks! I think I'm getting into it now... The creative juices are starting to flow! I could make a creeper head out of a cardboard box and the person who's 'it' would wear it - or is that a bit rubbish ..... ?

Another Nerf battle with Zommbies and Creepers v Miners.

Pig racing? Get them in teams of 2 and one rides on the other and they race around the room?

Pile of empty cardboard boxes (aka minecraft building blocks) - build a structure, then one team defends the structure (with water balloons?) from Zombies trying to knock it down.

Brilliant thanks, love the idea of building structures with cardboard boxes! I can paint them up in minecraft colours. Thanks for getting me started!
