First Birthday Party - utterly inexperienced!

Hello,

I'm giving a little tea party for DS's first birthday next week. Obviously there will be birthday cake but am unsure what other types of food to have. Having looked at the previous messages on here, good options seem to be sandwiches, fruit, crispie cakes (mmm) etc. Is 1 too young to have little cocktail sausages? Also how do you give them drinks when they're all still at the beaker-with-spout stage - I don't have enough cups!

Also I'm intending just to have toys in the garden, or inside if it's rainy, all accompanied by nursery rhymes. Frankly they won't remember a thing, I just want to ensure I've provided enough for the children to be getting on with.

Finally party bags - are they necessary for ones so young? And what should be put in them?

Thanks for any advice!

I would provide cocktail sausages. The Mums will decide whether their child is allowed them or not.

I would imagine at that age most Mums would bring their child's own beaker with them. So as long as you have a couple of spares for the dizzy Mum who has forgotten I think it should be OK!

Your entertainment plans sound fine. Party bags probably not necessary but they always seem to have them. Good things at that age are - a small book, a ball, bubbles, a piece of birthday cake that kind of thing. Don't get too carried away and set a precedent!

How many children? How long?

Good luck. Smile

Cocktail sausages it is, then - I'm partial to them myself so will do lots!

There are about 10 little ones, from 3 to 4.30pm. Hopefully it'll be a nice day so they can play in the garden.

Thanks for the tips!

xx Smile
