Ideas needed for a story book 8th birthday party please

Hi, we are having a traditional story teller for my DD's birthday. We will be using the church hall and all her class are envited. Eeek!
So far, I've thought of the children comming dressed as any story book character, they'll have the entertainer, then the food, then a few games eg pass the parcel and musical statues.

The hall is very plain and lacks charactor. Do you have any ideas to decorate it to go with the theme of the party? Or any other ideas to make it really special for her?

Ooh I bet you could do loads with a story theme. What are some of her favourite stories? You could have decorations which reference different stories.

How about the outer layer of the pass-the-parcel could be decorated to resemble a giant peach? (The prize could be a minibeast hunting kit or a wind up spider or other insect-related prize!)

You could decorate the hall as the setting of one of the stories - a chocolate factory, maybe? Is there going to be a central story on which to focus?

I love the pass the parcel idea! Thank you. There isn't a specific story, but I have a feeling most of the girls will come as princesses. Not sure about the boys.

How about a woodland decorative theme? That can be adapted to a lot of stories

You could do books instead of party bags.

What sort of stories does your daughter like, work out her favourite and find some games that fit. For example, if she likes the worst witch you could have broomstick relay races. If she likes horse books then you could have pin the tail on the horse (or horn on the unicorn). For the animal arc series you could set up a vet corner with soft toys and dr's equipment.

perhaps they could make their own story books at a table?

Perhaps some authors websites will have posters you can print, or colouring in sheets.

What about Alice in wonderland mad hatter tea party.

Having done pass parcel with whole class before, with so many kids it doesn't really work (but maybe you have a small class)

Be prepared that not all the kids will listen to the story teller, especially at a party where they are all excited

Mad Hatter is a good theme - or talk to the storyteller about what themes he/she will use and decorate accordingly - maybe as a woodland, for example (camofluage netting above, with paper leaves, more paper leaves on the floor, trees made of cardboard/art paper, artificial grass instead of a table cloth.....I could go on!)

It depends on budget (of both money and time), really.
