My son will be 2 next week and I was thinking about getting him a trike. Would be great to have some more ideas, also for his party with lots of other toddlers....

At 2 they don't really get games. Even Pass the Parcel is lost on most. I think lots of singing and dancing, and action songs work better. And free play.

When ds was two, we had a garden party (well, it was July!), and allowed the children to run around. We had loads of ds' toys out, and some garden hoop-type toys, but only the trucks etc were really played with.

A trike is a brilliant idea - ds loved his. What about a garden tenty-type set for the summer? A paddling pool?

When mine were this age I hired the local bowls club which is a big room and took up every push along thing I had and a few I borrowed and let them ride around madly for an hour before a snack tea and a pass the parcel and home. Most of the parents will stay and they have to be amused so you need to keep it simple. Trikes, pushchairs, pop up tents etc. an hour and a half is ample.. believe me

If you do too many (any?!) structured games you'll end up disappointed. They really don't get it. I had a sort of 'playgroup' set up - dough table, jigsaw table, pop-up house thing etc. etc. - whatever yr son likes to do. A few balls in the garden will probably suffice if the weather's good!
A bit of 'on the lap' singing and action rhymes would be fun and you could buy a parachute thing (around £15 from ELC I think) if you've got the room for parachute games! Smile have fun!
