Lego ninjago birthday cake

My son is 6 next month and has asked for a Lego ninjago cake. He'd love to eat the ninjagos so I've looked everywhere for a tutorial on making them but have no idea!! Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make a Lego man before I just stick real Lego men on top?!

I went to a party where there was a Lego cake (although wasn't specifically a Ninjago one) and it looked great but was very simple - a big rectangular cake, made to look like a giant piece of Lego (with 6 small circles on top) and the whole thing covered in blue icing. She just had plastic lego figures on top. It was very effective.

The only thing was the blue icing covered their tongues blue, and my son had a surprise in the loo the next day! :-0 No idea what she had used for food colouring!
Sorry if that was TMI....
