I'm sure when I was little the only present was the one at the end.

I do with a bigger present at end of unwrapping.

Yes. Sweets in every layer - small Haribo pack last time. If you don't, they look for them!

AdventuresWithVoles · 16/06/2012 20:07

YES

You are right - it was only a present at the end when I was young too. But when the DC were small, we put one in each layer. No wonder the younger generation cannot delay gratification

Yes. Or a single wrapped sweet. Keeps them quiet while the game continues and reduces likelihood of upset if they don't win (little ones).

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 16/06/2012 20:12

Yes - little party size bags of Haribo.

I'm reminded of Victoria Wood's recollections of pass the parcel when she was a child:

"Mrs Hardcastle, there's nothing in here!"

"Well, that's life. Think on."

DH and I argue about this every farking year. I explain you have to put a sweetie in every layer. That's just the way it is now. He does the Victoria Wood routine.

I'm actually surprised more people don't put a sweet in every layer. What single wrapped sweets do you use MrsFaffin? Miniature Hero/Celebration type things?

Well at least you people don't do the evil version, some layers with treats and some without, as experienced by my dcs! They got the turn with the empty layer, others had treats.

However they don't mind when there's just a present at the end. The other method seemed a bit unfair to me though!

I did a pass the parcel for my 30th birthday and put forfeits in the layers like "hug someone you just met" or "sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", but I'm a big meanie.
There were plenty of sweets about thoughGrin.

yes, my DS is only 5, and I had no idea about the temperament of the other DC at the party. In fairness to them, they were all lovely, and there was no fuss about who was winning which game :)

By the time they are all 30, I'm sure they'll handle their disappointment very well Grin

The genius thing with my forfeits was that they were only torture for adults. DCs would have no embarrassment standing on one leg or tickling someone else's tummy. It was funny watching my friends try to pass the parcel faster and faster, dreading what the next layer might bringGrin.
