we are stumped! she has trampoline (shared with her sister), 2 wheel scooter, bike, camera, roller skates. she wants a ds but is about to go to junior school where i suspect will outgrow it almost immediately. she has a set of parents and two setes of grandparents keen to get her something! she has found a hello kitty stationery set which one of us could get her, but taht leaves two other sets of people keen to know what else! inspire me please!

I am not sure she would outgrow a ds. You just buy older games for it don't you?

A shopping trip - my dd's now 7 and 8 like to choose an outfit or a new pair of shoes.
Book token, day trip somewhere, farm, zoo, etc. Or a nice necklace, a locket or something similar.

A tv DVD combo for her room, lots of DVDs, ps3 games, books, paints and craft stuff and a watch

A redecorated bedroom and lots of 'grown up' bits for it - curtains, duvet, desk lamp etc. We also got her a high sleeper which was obviously way more £££ than usual for a birthday, but I think she would have been delighted with the new room anyway - it was pink, which she chose when she was 2 and she wanted something more grown up.

My Dcs have had DSs since htey were 5 + 7, and now nearly 8 and 10 still get much enjoyment out of them so I wouldn't discount that entirely.
Having said that the best thing my DD had for her 7th birthday was a swingball for the garden - she loves it. She can play it on her own or with other people which is great.

I don't think she would outgrow a DS, I bought myself one in my 30's Blush

My DD is a bit younger, I would be thinking of a jewellery box, craft stuff, stationery, nice pen?, book tokens. DD loves getting clothes/dresses as presents but she is the girliest girl ever. Still tries to climb trees while wearing the dresses though.

Mine is a bit younger but got one of those learning computer tab things. Also dressing up stuff which she still loves (nothing princessy though, much cooler), art stuff etc.

ooh thanks mn'ers- these are inspirational. i will pass these ideas by her and see what she thinks! any other ones out there?

DSes definitely don't get outgrown and are a lifesaver if you have to wait somewhere/on car journeys. Some of the games are rated 14+ so I think it has the potential to be a real investment.
(My DD had a watch for her 7th birthday)

Sprogstersmum · 25/05/2012 19:26

Mine wants a guinea pig and a snorkel!

AdventuresWithVoles · 28/05/2012 16:55

DSi, not DS lite, you want.
DD had this, still much loved 3.5 yrs later.

Theas18 · 28/05/2012 17:02

"grow out of a DS" nope! OK my 16yr old has a DSi now as his Ds lite wore out but he still plays esp on holiday etc and he's 16. the 12yld had hers when she was 7 and it's still fine. It's been really well looked after too.

I have a lovely grown up watch for my 7th. Actually it's one of the few birthday pressies I remember nearly 40yrs later- it was round my egg cup on my birthday.

Please not swingball unless she's your youngest. THe amount of times DD2 was whacked in the face by bat or ball or screamed at or screamed in frustration 'cos she couldn't do it..... I'd say 9 or 10 for that- we are a spectacularly unsporty family thuogh apart from DS.

nowwearefour · 28/05/2012 19:07

ok this is a real eye opener here! thanks for info re ds's and also re swingball which we were considering but she is dd1 so might wait anotyher year!
