I know it's way too early but I've been thinking about the birthday cake. I'm imagining a tall rainbow cake, frosted in white with the elephants marching around the bottom and some matching bunting around the top with a large "3" on the top. Maybe as big as 6 inches.

Good idea?

What would you make the 3 out of?

Tinkerisdead · 17/08/2012 21:34

Blathers ive got the same thing planned for the 1st birthday. Make a 3 from gumpaste or fimo. If its gumpaste u could put a dowel in so it stands up.

I truly am doing big rainbow cake but im gonna do a rainbow topper i think.

Blatherskite · 17/08/2012 21:38

Yes, I was thinking I could just include a huge dowel to hold it up.

I can't decide on colour. I've toyed with white, grey, red, glitter... Rainbow could work too.

stealthsquiggle · 17/08/2012 21:58

I would make it in white gum paste and then paint it - rainbow or Elmer checks.

Hmmm, I've got the rest of the cake in my head but can't imagine the 3. I need to do some googling I think

fancydelightsbydiana.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/circus-theme.html?m=1 elephant and number

m.flickr.com/#/photos/29721812@N02/3259926389/

would work well with rainbow colour dots.

Tinkerisdead · 18/08/2012 19:37

I'm feeding dd2 in the lounge and cant reach the tv remote...

Blatherskite · 18/08/2012 19:39

I like the first 2. Love the hundreds and thousands one especially.

Blatherskite · 18/08/2012 19:43

Posted and then more appeared! Still preferring the first 2 :)

Tinkerisdead · 18/08/2012 21:31

Me too it was slim packings for examples to be honest but that no. 6 on the first one is wood. But it'd be easy enough to make from gumpaste and paint it like stealth suggested. Or roll out rainbow colours in sausages stick them together and flatten then cut a number out. Simples.

Blatherskite · 18/08/2012 22:09

Whatever it is will need to be attached to a nice long dowel to keep the number upright.

What could I do for food? Party is likely to be between 2 and 4 so I won't need to provide a meal, just snacks

stealthsquiggle · 18/08/2012 22:12

Right - about to go offline for 2 weeks. Blathers did my second attempt at tweeting that picture work?

Nope Sad

stealthsquiggle · 18/08/2012 22:39

just resent it from my PC - but the photo is here (only a secret from DD - she went with me to collect the parcel from the post office, but said that if it was to do with her party, then she didn't want to know what it was Grin)

That fabric is fab. Hope you're having a lovely holiday

Tinkerisdead · 26/08/2012 17:23

Right I'm probably talking to myself but I've come to tell you how dd2's do went.

Cake- well dd was crying/teething so a two tier Swiss dots number ended up a plain white iced cake with gum paste bootees and her name. But it looked simple and classic so I was very happy.

Decorations - Flowers I did pink/white with tons of lovely roses in little pink enamel buckets and a pink planter for the alter. I also did pink/ white bunting hung from the beams.

My bro and sil did a reading each and then one of the godfathers read a poem for dh and made everyone cry. I gave all the godparents a rose that's dd's name as a thank you.

The food was immense, new potatoes, cold meats, salads, rustic breads and a massive cheese board. And scones with cream...and my cake.

Dd2 looked fab in her gown made from my wedding dress and dd1 looked like a bloody bridesmaid in her eBay hong kong bargain dress. Dh wore a pink gingham shirt and the pink mother of pearl cuffslinks I gave him on dd2's birth.

Me everyone said I looked fabulous, maybe it's cos i was out of my jeans!! With a cream pleated waist dress and amethyst earrings and purple shoes. The earrings were a gift from dh when dd2 was born, her birthstone. My nails were all done, hair curled in a half up do and spray tanned legs to hide the white/blue from embolism stockings!

I've used all the decoration stuff in dd2's bedroom and finally bought her a chintzy pink cot set after I didn't sew my own. And the best bit?.....

I should stop my warfarin this week, which means I'm okay, I'm not dead. I have two wonderful girls, a gorgeous dh who is my rock and a whole lifetime spread out before me. Needless to say I cried a bit at our lovely family party.

Blatherskite · 26/08/2012 21:47

Aw DW, that sounds amazing. So glad it went well. Did the frozen cake work OK? So lovely that DD can have the decorations from her party in her bedroom.

I've had a creative weekend too. I was supposed to be making activity bags for my children and my niece to take to a wedding next weekend and hopefully stop them creating havoc during the meal and speaches. I've gone a bit OTT though and decorated some freebie tote bags I had with the children's initials. Stealth would be so proud of me Wink

Blatherskite · 26/08/2012 21:48

Very, very glad you're OK too x

Blatherskite · 28/08/2012 19:05

I've seen the hall today and I think it'll be lovely. It'll have had a repaint my the time we get in there and should be nice and light which will set off my bright rainbow theme wonderfully :)

Going to have to make some bunting I think

SerendipityAlways · 29/08/2012 09:53

Hi - Someone on MN told me I should come here for some helpful advice, as have posted myself but to no avail! 12 yr old DDs birthday party tomorrow for 12 girls at home. Any ideas? They're still up for some party games, they're not an overly sophisticated bunch yet! Will have kids for 5 hrs approx, going home at 8pm. Have planned to take them all off for a river walk at some stage too weather permitting, which they really enjoyed last year. Any ideas welcome for age appropriate party games?? Thank you

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 29/08/2012 15:20

I've just been trying to catch up on this thread since the last time I posted, all the parties sound amazing.

My girls Mr Tumble party is now less than 3 weeks away so I have to get moving with planning it.

So far I have bought all the spotty tableware, bunting and party bags. Also most of the party bag fillers although I have found some spotty purses I still need to buy. I'm planning to put big colourful spots on the walls and have a table with pictures of Mr Tumble to colour in. Will wrap up the prizes in spotty paper so that's easy. Oh, and I remembered someone here telling me about Justin Fletchers cd so have that on order. Am I missing anything??

As for food, I'm a bit stuck. I would like to make cookies in the shape of bow ties then could make them "spotty" with smarties. Also, going to do cupcakes (amazon do Mr Tumble cupcake toppers so will maybe get these).

As for the 12 year olds birthday party, if they like make up maybe they could do makeovers (blindfolded would be funny) and paint each others nails. As for games, I always used to like Twister, or what about musical chairs? I'm thinking of myself at that age, I'm sure we'd always end up playing truth or dare!
