DD wants a Princess party...any ideas?

I have booked a big hall, with seperate eating room for her party. We have enough time for about 2 hours of party (plus half hour either side for prep/tidying up).

She will be 4. She is obsessed with princesses and really wants a princess party.

There will be boys too though - so needs to be princess and prince, or may a royal party - so all princesses, princes, jesters, kights, etc can come

Have some ideas - want some music and flashing lights and balloons, thinking of a craft table for colouring related pictures and making crowns/tiaras, pass the parcel, pin the horn on the unicorn.

Was thinking of maybe getting an entertainer in for part of the time too...not sure what type though or what is even available near us (in Sheffield).

Anyone got any good ideas or suggestions?
(Other than run and don't do it!!!)

the castle cake was relatively easy, all bought cakes then iced, the tricky bit was getting it to stick! but i can lend you the book

If you can get hold of Kids' dress ups and parties from Australian Woman's Weekly it has a great section on medieval stuff - works for knights and princesses. Have done both separately -used old Ikea boxes painted to transform the outside of the house, made swords/ crowns (stick on tat from BakerRoss.co.uk), treasure hunts, think we painted treasure boxes or that could have been the mermaids. Big treasure hunt. Princess jam tarts, princess cake with a cheap barbie in as in Annabel Karmel but better (talented mil), trasure bags for goodie bags hand made - drawstring velvet. Ikea do them but not as cheap.

Went to see the hall we have booked today and it is a really good size. A party was just finished as we arrived and there was a bouncy castle up in the hall in one corner and DD had a fgreat time trying it out (the dad of the party girl was DH's client) so we gave in and booked one - doesn't look very princess-y, but it is a castle! Must make sure the parents of the little girl's know that their children need to be able to bounce in their dresses!

It is my baking that is the issue YG!!!

I know, I know - lots of excuses!!!! LOL!

Just trying to see if I can find Princess food boxes at moment. Think I may have to go for plain ones and adorn with my own stickers though.

What a lovely offer.

(or are you just wanting on a go on the trampoline - only joking )

I'll see how I get on with the planning, as MIL's friend might come up trumps again (makes/decorates cakes). But need to drop more hints I think. Thanks again.

my fairy castle cake

i'd offer to make one for you Hula but i'd be too scared of meesing it up!!

Hulababy · 05/02/2006 22:03

It is just a very busy run up to the party! I am scared of doing this type of thing - I would mess it up! I want MIL's friend to make the cake again to take the pressure of me - not sure if she even does it anymore. LOL! We will see.....

Invites could be a royal scroll.

Play sleeping lions, but veiled as that disney story - not sleeping beauty, but the other one (the princess who is cursed by the witch not invited to her christening, so made her sleep for 100 years).

Deffo think the bouncy castle is a great idea!
