Ds2 will 4 in a couple of weeks and he wants to have some of his party outside. I've explained to him that it will be dark and cold, but he wants it outside anyway: -s
I was thinking maybe lights outside and some sort of treasure hunt followed by warm food, but I'm not sure that will use up 2 hours: )

All ideas gratefully received. :)

We're having a teeny tiny bonfire party for ds1's 6th birthday this weekend. I'm going to give them some bonfiry food (indoors) and then give them early party bags containing a cheap torch each (there are only about 7 of his pals coming) and some home-made treacle toffee and we're going to go up to the garden and have some small fireworks - we've got ones which (I hope) are mostly colours rather than pops and bangs. We plan to have flares up the path and a bonfire (we have one of those braziers that looks like a metal dustbin with holes in it). I'll take hot choc and parkin up to the garden and the jobs a goodun, fatal injuries notwithstanding. And assuming that it doesn't pour with rain...

Bug hunting, would need to be during the day, but they would find worms and woodlice if nothing else. Can do stuff like making butterflies, caterpillars or whatever out of leaves and twigs and other things they,ve found. Have done this with boys and girls in June and October, loved it both times! Give them a magnifying glass, could do stuff like bark and leaf rubbing if you need to spin it out.
