Small party at home for 6 yo boys - themes/activities?

We've always had fairly big parties for DS with a hall and an entertainer but as we're skint and this is really the first year he has a proper small-ish circle of friends so I thought we could do a party at home after school for him and around 6 friends.

Any ideas for activities, themes etc?

I've done this a couple of times for my ds's when they were 7. Its quite hard work! Choose the guests carefully, try to get outside for a bit, and make sure you have plenty of activities planned. I've done a pirate themed party (with treasure hunt) and an animal themed party. Games done as teams works quite well. Good luck!
