Mr Mysto is local-ish, Tadworth area.

I think my DCs have attended parties he has done, but never booked him ourselves.

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 18/04/2011 18:13

Missmuddle, any idea what his rates might be? He seems expensive and I'm even embarrased to ask!
Checking on Mr Mysto...

The process of trying to find an entertainer who will do a magic show for my son's birthday party is really depressing me. I am not in the business of trying to impress anybody; I just want to do something special for a little boy who has never asked for anything for himself and has even offered me the £40 in his piggy bank to pay for it. I made several inquiries online last night and I have had a few phonecalls back. So basically what happens is that none of these websites give you any idea of prices so they want you to leave your details so that they can ring you and pitch to you. I have struggled to get some of them off the phone and a couple I have even found a bit creepy and desperate and when I have tried to explain that they're just too pricey they've turned a little sour and have wished me 'good luck' finding what I want for my budget. I was sort of thinking any more than £100 for a 45 minute/1 hr show would be out of the question but it seems people think nothing of paying £300 for this kind of thing. I wonder if my DH might be able to learn a few magic tricks quickly...

We had a guy called Gilbert Giggles a few years ago, who was an entertainer who did some tricks. He was great.

Gilbert Giggles sounds perfect but too pricey for me

If you are having the party at weekend it's unlikely anyone will be flexible on price. As you can see most are fully booked charging what they charge. Being in London doesn't help either, I'm afraid.

If you can have the party after school or in the holidays you may stand more of a chance of getting an entertainer for that price.

I am a childrens entertainer and I think I am one of the few ones that does actually put my prices on my website!

PM if you can do a weekday one and if I can help I will.

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 20/04/2011 19:55

Hi Cyclops99, I wish I knew how to PM you? Where is the link or can you PM me? Blush

Hi, my dh does children's parties although he is not a magician as such, he does science parties and does lots of fab experiments (including setting children's hands on fire, putting them in bubbles, doing lots of flash/bang/firey tricks, static electricity things etc etc, the list is endless !!) So, it is like magic, but he gets cross if I say that and says it is science !! He is a secondary science teacher by day, so a proper scientist, rather than just doing "tricks" if that makes sense, 7-10 year old boys are his favourite age group.

Anyway, his website is htts://www.amazingscientist.com and he charges £110 for an hour or £150 for an hour and a half (now I think he is undercharging !!), is Merton up the A3, in South London (we are just south of Guildford but he will travel up to about an hour and fifteen minutes, maybe more).

I wasn't sure if I could put his website on here, I probably need to put him in the classifieds section too and pay, but thought I would respond if you were still looking !!

Helen xxx
