Are there any experienced pumpkin carvers out there?

I have bought one largish pumpkin and one smallish pumpkin. Now I need to work out what to do with them.
When should I carve them? - now or nearer to Monday?
And how do you go about it?

  • slice off the top, take out the seeds then cut shapes in the front, is it as simple as that? What sort of knife works best? Will I end up with any edible pumpkin?

Can you tell I am clueless?
OK no need to answer the last question.

We did one at the weekend - if you go to Tesco they do a little pack with a special knife, 6 face templates etc. You just make little holes in the shape of the template then carve away! It looks really good and the pack was only 98p!

You have to cut the top off first and scrape the insides out - make sure you get it all out so it doesn't go manky!!

wait until monday am bozza
cut the top off and scrape all the insides out with a large spoon
draw the face you want to cut out with pencil and then cut away
I put tea light inside but advise dont put top on when tealight is on as it stinks
