Have a disco planned for dd and her best mate's 5th birthdays next week. Dh has created a selection including

I need your music suggestions for a 5 yo (mixed gender) party - ideally lots of 'pre-done' actions so I don't have to come up with cunning disco games to keep them amused.

So far we have:

  • Superman
  • Bob and big fish little fish
  • The Macerana
  • YMCA
  • The Bloody Birdie Song
  • The Conga

Oh god, that's depressing. I'm going to need headphones piping Radiohead into the other ear to balance things out. Anything we've missed>

We've also got a few 'freedance' ones (Barbie Girl, Kung fu fighting, Mama Mia etc)
I'm hoping they'll just sort of dance to those....

I'm tempted to just put "I predict a riot" on and leave them to it....

the time warp?

deepdarkwood · 12/03/2011 09:08

Oh, yes - that's a bit less painful on my ears. Pelvic thrusts with 5 yos though? May need to sllightly tweak that bit...

how could you forget AGADOO! Grin

blinks · 21/03/2011 18:13

i don't think it has to be UTTERLY shit music at a 5 year old's disco. my 5 year old enjoys-

black eyed peas
katy perry
queen, weirdly
justin bieber, for it is he
lady gaga
madonna
kylie
abba, loved with a passion

blinks · 21/03/2011 18:14

ah just reread your post which actually mentions games to songs. discard mon list!

'time warp' would be good!

BarbaraBar · 21/03/2011 18:14

I agree with blinks 100%

blinks · 21/03/2011 18:16

bless you barbarabar

Extremely cheesy but what about the Fast Food song - you know pizza hut, pizza hut kentucky fried chicken etc I know not very mumsnet but DS (3.6) loves doing the dance

BendyBob · 21/03/2011 18:24

That Cha Cha Slide song - my dd's love that one - where you get told where to go (iykwimGrin)

Not actions with this one, but dd's like the Chihuahua song too .

Bettyspencer · 22/03/2011 09:27

Is this the way to Amarillo?
Okey cokey
Agadoo
Locomotion
Oops upside your head
Let's twist again

yellowvan · 22/03/2011 09:31

IME you will need some games as well. Race type ones in teams, balloon popping ones, musical statues. 5yr old boys don't dance, even to the cha cha slide. They race and fight

thumbwitch · 22/03/2011 09:38

ah Bettyspencer got mine in - I was going to say oops upside your head as well.

I was going to suggest Twistin' (let me see you shake your tail feathers) but it might be a bit too suggestive - only if you think that way though - dunno.

Surprise hit at DSs 5th birthday disco was..... limbo dancing.

Not that any of them DID limbo, but they all formed a line and went round and round ducking under an ever lowering bar, eventually crawling under it commando style. While DJ span some nonsense naff limbo limbo reggae type tune.

Musical islands, bumps and statues also worked well.

MOST 4 and 5 yr olds have no idea what to do at a disco.
