Any suggestions?

I don't want to go to any great lengths - but want to fill them up! No ovens available either.

Should I pre load the plates and then just hand out - or let them choose their own items?

Jugs of juice or get some cartons from Asda?

I am doing 29 * 6 year olds on Sunday

We are having
Sandwiches -ham, jam, cheese
Sausages, Sausage rolls
Grapes, Cherry Toms
Crisps/ snacks
Cup cakes & party rings
Chocolate fingers

Oh and jugs of squash- MUCH cheaper

I am putting it on the table, and putting some separately for the grown ups

I'd go with the boxes you can buy on ebay, like the ones McDonald's use. Last year I put in two sandwiches, crisps, a sausage roll, a mini scotch egg and some cake, then handed out drinks. Transport them in the wide, flat cardboard boxes that fruit arrives in at supermarkets.

I did 25 6 year olds recently and decided I wasn't going to go to much effort as they don't eat much so I did food boxes and did -

a round of sandwiches (2 jam, 2 marmite with the idea they could swap with others if they didn't like one sort)

packet of hula hoops

packet of mini party rings

satsuma

drink

I'd say it was the most successful/ produced the least waste of other parties I've done when I've done plates of healthy stuff.

Did a party for 30x6yo this weekend. All sat around a big table with food put down the middle, to help themselves.

5 platters of sandwiches - 20 rounds in total, ham, cheese and jam
Little dishes of grapes, carrot sticks, cucumber, mini sausages.
Bowls of hula hoops, Bear and quavers.

Then platters of fairy cakes, party rings and pink wafers.

And individual bottle of water - that prbably was a bit waste but guaranteed no spillage.

They scoffed the lot! The only thing to watch out for is the child who fills their plate with sausages then leaves them [grr]
