Planning a treasure hunt for my dds fifth birthday party. I was going to give them a sheet with about six clues on and send them looking for coloured pens tied around the house and garden to tick off on the sheet, when they have all the clues they collect their party bags. I was going to have them in small teams with an adult to read the clues.

Any ideas for clues because I an clueless?

Can you draw pictures or give very simple clues? Or write very simple clues if they can read (by the yellow fence etc). You could also tie ribbons to things to help them find the pens.

Good idea about the ribbons.

Written clues will be easier to print off and hand out though, also I can clip art to make the sheet look a bit nicer.

Are you all as clueless as me?

I thought "I'll just post on MN and the clues will come flooding in from all the lovely MNers"

Serve me right for being so lazy I suppose.

I often do treasure hunts for my boys (3 and 5). I always do it so they don't need adult help. I either do it as a chain (ie clue 2 is found at the place specified in clue 1). Or hide a plastic coin in each place, so they need 10 coins to 'buy' the treasure.

for ds 2 (3) I give him as set of cards with (badly drawn) pictures of objects around the house/garden where the clues are hidden (wellies, watering can, specific toys etc).

for ds 1 95) I write simple phrases like "where DS1 sleeps".

Your task is harder as they won't all know the house/garden.
