1-shaped cake with normal loaf tins?

Has anyone managed to make a birthday cake in the shape of a big number 1 without having to get a special tin? I'm thinking I can do it by using several normal loaf cakes and cutting them up to make the parts. Anyone got any tips?

Have you tried googling for a pattern? That would be my first step! I'm sure you can do it though - maybe 1 whole loaf tin and then cut another one up for the ends.

I would do it in a roasting tin, then cut out a 1 shape with a big knife.
