New Job and Dept Redundancies

DD started new job in September along with 1 other new starter (small team of around 10 in a huge organisation). Told 1-2 weeks in that 2 staff members jobs in team at risk. Individuals would be told shortly. Told privately that she is okay as she's on a training scheme paid for out of central budget. Two staff members going are extremely competent ie more useful than her (but she is cheaper). DD thinking that perhaps she should have a Plan B.

Only graduated in July so could probably apply to other grad schemes. Had other offers last year but I suspect there was some luck involved plus this year it is probably more competitive (and she's too late for some) so no guarantees she would get same again.

What would you advise?

Other new start is applying for funded PhDs and other jobs. DD minded to sit tight, and see if she can get 2 years (training is good) under her belt before she is binned.

It’s really difficult to say one way or another, there’s so many people applying for any sort of job. Personally if she thinks she’s safe and been told, I would stay and get more experience from the current role.

Thanks. She thinks she is okay for at least a year.
