I’m a snitch

I heard my neighbours teenage daughters / their friends on the join of our shared second story roof last night. They were out there chatting. A sloped roof! I realised their parents must not be home so I texted to say one of them is on the roof, as I knew their mum would want to know, and I was concerned about their safety.
Then around 11pm I heard an object slide down the roof. I went outside to see two of them scaling down our side of the roof. I told them to get down, and they said they’d dropped their phone down the gutter and were trying to get it back. They quickly climbed back into their window. I messaged their mum again and said they’re now safe but had been climbing down the roof (I didn’t mention it was on our side).

neighbour hasn’t replied although it says she read my message at 2am. I know I did the right thing letting their mum know and telling them to get off but… also feel like such a snitch!

Why didn't you go outside and shout at them to get off the roof?

Anotherworrier · 01/12/2024 09:35

She thinks you’re a busy body.

I hope they haven't broken your tiles

So funny being accused of being a busy body on Mumsnet - a site made up of the people who can’t seem to get enough busy bodying so they turn to being nasty on the internet.

What country are you in? Is it normal to socialise on shared roof space?

You think I’m really worried about it? No! It’s just chat to see what other people would do. This is an insane website where people cant help but turn nasty.

I feel seen 😂😂 I think I’m probably the only MNetter to admit I don’t act like this in real life. My busy bodying is all online. Sorry if you felt I was nasty, it was just my observation.

The UK. No it’s not

Well, if it didn't rain last night, it was still pitch black and bitterly cold. A sloping tiled roof seems like a treacherous place to socialise on a winter's night in the UK.
You were right to contact the parents. Sorry if I missed how old they are?

It's such incredibly dangerous behaviour, though. The parents are lucky you didn't call the police.

YourGladSquid · 01/12/2024 12:51

Even if you were being a busybody, the mother was rude not to reply. A simple “thank you, we’ll take it from here” would have been enough.

Some people just let their kids do whatever and then act all surprised pikachu when things happen.

SuziQuinto · 01/12/2024 12:52

Pikachu indeed.
