Best car for lower insurance

Any recommendations for best make of car to get a chance of lowest car insurance for 19 year old son who has passed his test? Many thanks.

If you use the advanced search on Autotrader you can search for "Group 3 or below".

That should give you an idea of which ones are cheapest to insure

Our 18 year old has a smart car; cheap to run and insure but only has 2 seats. His friends with the next cheapest insurance have: VW Up, Aygo, Peugeot 106, i10.
Just check the safety ratings too - we looked at an old Kia Picanto for cheap insurance but the safety rating was terrible compared to other cars of similar age and size.
