The dreaded weed

What do I do? I have 2 of my (not very) adult children living at home. I know they smoke weed. Infrequently I think. It seems to be every now and again. But they seem to want to “ walk the dog” when they want a smoke. Should I just let them do it in the garden? Or keep turning a blind eye and pretending it’s not happening?

Is it just weed?
Do they drink alcohol?
Weed damages less brain cells than alcohol.
Better you know than not.
It will soon be legal.
I'm 66 and use it for server pain.
(.Dry herb vape) much different from the average vape).
Just found out two of my eldest Grandsons smoke it now and again.. ( age 17 and 19).
I smoked it in my youth( big biker we did) .
Not once have l ever got " high" from way back in my youth or now.
It just calms my body and helps with my spasms and pain.
I'd turn a blind eye.
Well let them.know you know.. and that you're open minded if you're allowing it..
Because ( and very very rarely..).some do get high and want a bigger high and can lead to other drugs).. but that hand on heart is very very rare.
Most people go through a phase of Weed..

Well, I wouldn't allow it at all, but I am very much my house, my rules.

SpringCalling · 19/07/2024 22:07

Their brains are still developing until 25 and it can affect that development. Not much in some, a lot in others. Given that I wouldn't endorse it by allowing it in the garden.

I don't really believe in "better you know than not" maxim, so you may not want to take my advice. I prefer not condoning any substance use or abuse.

Do you not drink alcohol?
I don't but I am not daft enough to think it's any better for people than weed.

Lentilweaver · 19/07/2024 22:27

I don't drink at home. I drink occasionally if I am out with friends. DC are the same. They don't drink at home. Dh doesn't drink at all.

Supersimkin7 · 19/07/2024 22:30

Depends. Skunk is a trigger for schizophrenia, grass not so much.

Alcohol is seen as worse because more people drink so more people go wrong, and weed smokers are evangelical about how it’s a harmless painkiller. It can be.

PurpleBugz · 19/07/2024 23:55

If under 25 then don't allow in the garden as I would think they would do it more than when they are trying to hide it from you? If older than 25 any damage done to their brain had happened so it's up to you if you allow it and trust the freedom won't bring on an addiction

I live in a country where weed is legal. Mine smoke in the garden. Its no big deal to me

offononeagain · 20/07/2024 15:10

Thanks all. I will probably just carry on turning a blind-eye and not actively condoning it but not coming down hard either. They could be doing a lot worse I suppose, I was just worried that it may become problematic. But there are no signs of that at the moment- they work, play sports, are sociable. Just had a wobble
