ADHA - reducing Equasym XL dosage

Hi,
I was hoping for a bit of advise if anyone has experience of the following:
My friends son is 21yrs and has recently been advise to begin the process of coming off Equasym XL. This process began a couple of months ago by reducing his usual 40mls to 30mls. Since this has happened, he has suffered from crippling headaches, excessive (bright) green mucus and a sore throat.
It could be a coincidence of course, but the timings of the medication being reduced and these symptoms are spot on (he's never suffered from prolonged headaches etc before).
Has anyone else experience anything similar?
Also, she's since read that this process should have possibly started when he was 18yrs - is that anyone else's experience too?
Thanks so much for anyone advice given, it will be very much appreciated.

Isn't bright green mucus a sign of infection? I'm not a HCP but I'd see a GP or Pharmacist with those symptoms.
