Don't panic, nothing like what you think.
I'm a single mum to 2 humans (and 2 cats). It was difficult but I juggled things and was pround when they both (the human kids) went to uni and graduated. Both living at home....
I was a shouter as a mum, I'm afraid and when the youngest kept getting into trouble at school, I have said - you'll end up as a failure if you don't buck up your ideas.
Well, while cleaning out this cupboard I found a note (to himself) stuck at the very back. Going by the handwriting and spelling, I'd sayhe was around 13/14 when he wrote it. It's like a poem/rap/lyrics saying - they always say I'll be nothing but I'll show you, I'll be big and famous and then you'll want to be me...'
He's now 24. Room's a pigsty, he smokes wed every day and has a minimum wage job similar to labouring. He doesn't want to do anything with his degree. But, he's not in prison (as he tells me) so I should be 'happy'.
What would you do with the note, put it back or chuck it away?

give it to him.
Ask if you still thinks he will be something, and how he is going to get there.

'They' I assume will be me, teachers and older sibling.
He smokes 'weed' every day. I cleaned the cupboard out today - it holds their old young child clothes and toys.

Show him it. Maybe that will hit home.

steppemum - that's a good idea. He needs to reassess where his life is going as he's not famous as he predicted a decade ago.

Ever heard of the term 'self fulfilling prophecy'?

Sounds like you've done a good number on him. 🤔

Dearblossom · 12/01/2022 14:25

Definitely give it back to him but don't say 'well you aren't famous now are you'.

I think I'd use it as a conversation starter, a kind one.

Does he pay his way at home? Do his own washing, cooking etc? Sounds like he may have things a bit too easy still at home with mum??
