OU Students - any advice on A103 (Intro to Humanities) or DD100 (Intro to Soc Sciences)?

I'm registering for some OU courses towards a Modern Languages degree. I want to do 90 points worth of courses in the first year, and I've signed up for the French one, but am wondering whether to choose the Intro to Humanities or Intro to Soc Sciences. I'm sure they're both interesting!

Has anyone done either of these courses? Did you enjoy them? Any advice or recommendations for me?

Hi Amy

The OU offer financial assistance to cover course fees plus a grant of £250 towards books etc. - all the info is on their website. I'm not working at the moment and all my course fees are covered

thanks I am entitled to it but wondered had anyone got a student loan or career development loan at all while studying with the ou?

spacedonkey · 30/12/2005 15:43

would the loan be for living expenses or for course costs?

living expenses. Amy xx

I don't know Amy - most OU students are part time and therefore living expenses are covered either by income from employment or benefits. I think student loans are aimed at full-time students. I have had a career development loan before, but that was purely to cover course fees and as far as I remember that is what they are aimed at. Try giving the OU a call and asking them if you can get a student loan if you're studying full-time (I would think that you'd have to study 120 points per year or more to count as a full-time student with the OU).
