Is 10 1/2 months to young for toddler bed

My dd is and has always slept in our bed and has thrived, but now I think its time for dp and I to get our bed back. She has a cot but wont go in it, if I put her in once she is asleep she is sometimes ok but once she tries to turn or move, she hits the bars and wakes up and I have to take her out again. I thought putting her straight in a bed would be the best option but not sure if it is safe. She is not walking alone yet but is very good with the furniture and can get on and off the sofa without falling.
Has anyone got any advice or experience on this.

What about putting her in there just to play

while you are putting clothes away or cleaning her room

what do you do for naps?

If she goes in to play then it will be a fun place

IMHO I would keep trying with the cot but different families do different things

I mean PUT her in the COT to play etc etc.

Try a cot bumper?
Or get one of those little starter beds from Ikea, put it sideways against the wall with a pillow to prevent bangs against the wall, and put a bed barrier thing on the other side so they can't fall out. It means there is a gap at the end where they can get out safely if they want to.

My dd went on a matress on the floor at 15mths because she disliked her cot so much, and then bed at 2 years.

It depends on your environment. Will he be safe if he crawls off a matress in the middle of the night?

DD went in the cot with the side off an a normal mattress by the side so if (when) she got out it was onto something soft. But I put a stair gate accross her door and her room was completely childproof

My ds slept in my bed till he was 20 months and then went straight into a junior size bed with a safety side. We usd to ensure the stairgate was shut and he was then pretty safe.

I do put her in her cot to play, usually while i get dressed etc and she dosnt mind that. As for naps I am lucky if she sleeps half and hour in the day unless we are in the car, she's never been a big napper but has always slept well at night.
I have a bumper I'll try that. We live in a flat so she would be safe as there are no stairs to worry about. I'll keep trying the cot for now, cant really afford to spend on a bed her cot is virtually brand new. Thanks for tips

my ds went into a toddler bed about a week before he turned one and we have never had any problems with it. However he was walking from 8.5mths so very sturdy on his feet by then. I dont think the walking is important as such as it only encourages them to come running into your room. Maybe try with the matress on the floor so its is very easy to get on and off to prevent any accidents? We do have a stairgate on ds room and at top of stairs so when we got to bed we open his and close one at stairs so he doesnt decide to go and play while we are in bed..lol

Do you think it would work if after her bath and last bottle or breast when it is time to go to sleep you put her in her cot to play as it were.

And you be busy talking and tidying up around her so it is like a playtime and then eventually she may just drop off to sleep

sort of like it is bedtime but is isn't Or sit next to the cot holding her hand or stroking her hair and reading books etc

But if she is happy to play in there let her have an exteneded playtime after bedtime and if she is tired it may work

It seems a shame for you to have bought a lovely cot for her that you can't use

Is she in your room or does she have another room?

Do you cuddle her to sleep or does she fall asleep by herself IYSWIM

I know all families are different I am just trying to come up with ideas of what you can do next.

Her cot is in our room. To get her to sleep, I lay on the bed with her and she plays then starts rubbing her eyes then falls asleep, sometimes she falls asleep leaning on me iyswim. Problem is if I put her in her cot instead she protests. I know I should leave her there and probably do the controlled crying thing but i just cant leave her to cry.
I will try her in there again today.

Do you think it would work if you stay in the room and empty out the drawers or something and so put her in the cot

BUT be right with her but be busy at same time but talking to her

so maybe fool her into thinking she is going in for a play while you are busy with the clothes folding them very slowly etc and taking a long time about it

DS cot was in our room too.

That may work I'll wait till she is really tired then do that. I'll let you know how we go on. Thanks

perhaps leave the curtains open or half open for tonight if possible

so she doesn't think it is for bedtime but for playtime while mummy is busy folding clothes

What a night Kanga. I did what you said, Bath, boob then into cot while I pottered around in b'room, all was going well dd was playing etc then i read to her then sang, for an HOUR!! She was almost asleep then just started to cry and screem as if I had left her alone. she continued screeming till she was in such a state, sweatting and shaking. So I had to take her out after an hour and a half.
I was so sure she was going to sleep. I had to bring her out to clam her down and let her feed again, she fell asleep and is now in the cot.
We'll see if she stays in there.:|

I suppose her cot cant have one side off to go level with your bed can it?

Our one was called a BED SIDE BED and the 4th side wasn't there and you put it at the same height as our bed so he was in the cot but next to the bed as well

Then when he started to be on the move put the 4th side up again so he was safe.

That is how it was designed and was DEFFO BRILL

I will try again, I was so sure she would sleep in there she was so close. She stayed in cot till about 2am then woke up for a feed (yes dd still has a night feed )

Yes you undestood. She stayed in 'till her feed then back in our bed. She is in the cot again tonight although I put her in there once she was asleep. I think I am making a little progress, just need her to stay in there till morning and I will have cracked it
