How much time does your 12 year old spend with friends, & how much family time?

My dd seems to spend a lot of time either out with her mates, or, if she's at home, texting or facebooking them. So even when she's with us she's not really! We eat as a family about 4 times a week, but that's about it. How typical is she? Is this normal? I thought friends wouldn't take over until she was a bit older, 14/15. When I was 12 I'm sure I didn't have a social life at all!

Cory, I think my DS is the same age as your DD and because of the problems he had in yr7 he really did lose confidence in friends. He has just started over easter going out with school friends.
He went on a residential school trip in Feb and seems to have made some new friends, mostly girls and one in particularly seems to have got him in with a new crowd and he has been spending time with them.
He is a homebody and loves spending time with DH and part of me thinks at least of he is at home then he is not getting into trouble out side (not that he is likely to ) but you never know what goes on.
I also think part of the spur maybe DD starting secondary and always being out with different friends.

His recemt first attempt at meeting up with one of his old primary friends went completely wrong and they didn't arrange the time properly etc
