We paid for a group of about 10 friends with babies to go swimming at the local pool, and then those who wanted to came for lunch at the leisure centre cafe. Swimming was my son's favourite activity and it was a good social gathering without any pressure on me to provide entertainment or have to cook. It was a good day, I would do it again for a child that age.

Haven't read the thread but
child 1, party, cake, family
child 2, champagne and wouldn't have done anything else had my mum not arranged a small family party. dd didn't know so I'd have done nothing other than congratulated myself!

DS1- massive party, DS2 - trip to restaurant with friends, DS3- naming ceremony (thereby gettting in two events with one bash and saving quids!)

On the actual day - a Sunday - we had a small tea party. Both grandparents came over, my borther and sister too. And our friends came over with their DS. We sang happy birthday, blew out candles, opened presents. All low key and relaxing.

the next day DH had the day off work and we took DD to the zoo as a treat.

DD1 - picnic at the zoo with family (wonderful afternoon, loads of fun)
DD2 - small birthday tea with family (more for DD1 than DD2..)

all good ideas - was already thinking along the line of going to the zoo, so think i will definitely go with that now and maybe a small tes party in the evning! thanks xx

LOL desperatehousewife. Now I can admit that I spent one manic moment in the car thinking I would just keep driving. And then there was the point when dh found me curled up under my dressing table about an hour before the party.

Ahh, the joys of PND...
