Your very first thought when you saw your baby?

Hi ladies (and some gentlemen)!

Having no children myself yet, I have always been curious about the first thought that comes through your mind when you first see your baby. And what better place to ask than MN!

So please, I would love to hear your thoughts... from the cheesiest ("He's the most beautiful angel in the world!") to the funniest ("Gee, it looks like a blob!" - Angelina Jolie with daughter Shiloh).

Thank fuck she's out.

(then later, after a good dinner, went through all the usual schmaltzy "this is what I was made for...." boak-inducing boakery.

But the over-riding thought was the first one...

And I said it outloud too, "she's looks just like my brother"

Pure relief tbh as she was born in an emergency section and then tears of joy and pure love

Cheesy I know but she is my only child

how did I make such I white baby! I was expecting a BRAAAAAAHN baby! I then turned to DH and said "fuck your family genes are strong" (he is white). She is still really pale and delicate. I'm sure people think I'm the nanny.

"Oh My God! He's got a furry back!"

He hadn't. He was gorgeous. I think it was the late shot of pethidine messing with my head.

She's sooooo long!

I can't look after that BABY, not NOW.

Took a long time to sink in that erm, there's nobody else to do it...

(crash c/s birth)

DS: "He looks like a plucked chicken,"

DD: "She's tiny! Is she ok?" (she wasn't tiny at all at 8lbs but compared to DS at 9lbs 9ozs, she was a shrimp)

DS1 - god, look at that hair
DS2 - I hope that lump isnt sore and goes down (he was born by ventouse so had a massive lump on his head for about 11 months)
DD - She doesnt look like the name I had chosed

On waking from the general anaesthetic after an emergency c-s and being asked by DH if I wanted to see my beautiful daughter:

'No, I'm too tired, take her away, I'll see her tomorrow.'

Still bothers me 5.5 years and 2 more babies later.

in shock after 5 mins birth at 29 weeks:

"what happened? why does she look a bit like Voldemort?"

DH said, "It's a boy" and I replied, "That's the unbilical cord - it's a girl!".

My first thought was "Ugh, why does she smell like that?!"

The first thing I said was "Is she pretty?!" as I couldn't see her (delivered on all fours and was stuck in that position from the shock of her wooshing out My sister had told me all through my pregnancy that she would tell me if I had an ugly baby [loves her brutally honest and blunt sister emoticon] and so it must have been playing on my mind when I asked!

DS1 - F098ck that hurt
DS2 - wow he is gorgeous
