What's your toddler wearing to bed in the heatwave?

DD is 2. Tonight she has just pj bottoms on and a sheet over her. The window is open a bit but not too much cos I'm paranoid she could climb out. (We're upstairs). Her room feels really hot and I feel a bit worried about it. What are others doing? Thanks.

DS1&2 (2.4 and 9 weeks) are just in a nappy and 0.5tog sleeping bag. Windows open and fans on.

alittleteapot · 01/07/2009 08:30

Good to hear you're doing similar things to me. Was worried with no top on she might feel cold in early hours but she was fine last night. Keeping blinds down in day def helped a bit yesterday but it's still just so hot! I'm pregnant so possibly feeling it more than dd is...

DS (9 weeks) just has his nappy and a sleeveless vest on.

I also put a soaking wet towel over the radiator under the window and have the window open a bit, so the draft passes over the wet towel and cools the air a bit.

Also give a tepid bath before bed and when he gets very hot I rub wet cotton wool over his head and face to cool him down a bit.

He's still a grumpy so and so though!

nappy and short pjs. Just a sheet on the cot but he'd wriggled out of it by the time we went to bed for the past couple of nights.

Tepid bath before bed and I try and dampen his hair a bit. He hates having his hair washed or I'd be doing that every night too.

ShowOfHands · 01/07/2009 13:23

Not too hot in dd's bedroom as we keep the curtains closed all day. She's stubborn though and insists on pyjamas. I put her to bed in a vest and she gets up and changes into pyjamas. She's 2yrs 2 months. No blankets though, she kicks them all off whatever the weather.

Pinkjenny · 01/07/2009 13:24

Dd is 2.2 and wearing a shorts and t-shirt pj number. Quite loose, baggy cotton. She's still a sweaty betty though. No covers.

Northernlurker · 01/07/2009 13:38

Dd3 is insisting on her pjs and her grobag. I'm not happy with having the window open for climbing out reasons so I've been leaving the landing window open and her door open to to get a through draft. If she gets as far as that she would just wander in to us rather than explore! She seems to be sleeping well but it isn't as hot here as it is down south I think.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 01/07/2009 13:49

DD is 19mo and goes to bed in just a nappy, on top of her covers with a light sheet (which she kicks off anyway). She has a fan on her as well (we turn it off when we go to bed)

weblette · 01/07/2009 13:54

18mo ds wears nappy and thin Grobag.

CMOTdibbler · 01/07/2009 13:57

DS is 3, and last night was totally nude. I intended to sneak a nappy on at 10 (I knew he'd be dry then), but after that he woke up crying that he was a big boy who didn't need nappies, so took it off. Dry bed this morning !

Egg · 01/07/2009 14:03

DS1 is 3.4 and sleeps in full long sleeved pjs and pj trousers... He insists. He prefers to remain clothed and then kick off all covers it seems.

DTs (nearly 18 months) wear t-shirts and sleep in 0.5 tog grobags. Their room is furnace-like.

fatslag · 01/07/2009 14:05

Open everything wide in the morning when it's still cool to create lots of draughts and let out the hot air. By 11 a.m. close curtains/shutters - I leave the windows open to keep the air moving but the sun is kept out.

Temperature, a manageable 23 degrees in the bedrooms yesterday evening.

Maveta · 01/07/2009 14:07

ds sleeps naked with a sheet that he rarely keeps on him all night. His window is open (shutters shut) and has a fan on.

Maveta · 01/07/2009 14:08

sorry he is 2.2

weegiemum · 01/07/2009 14:08

Don't know about toddlers, but my 5yo is sleeping naked!

Supercherry · 01/07/2009 14:13

Nappy only, window slightly open, on top of the duvet. He is still sweaty, has heat rah on the back of his neck and keeps scratching- poor mite. He slept poorly last night.

LittleOneMum · 01/07/2009 15:27

Mine is 21 months and is in just a nappy in his 0.5 tog grobag. I tried to put him in no grobag but he loves it so much that he cried, so i put him in and he doesn't seem too bad.

used2bthin · 01/07/2009 15:44

Just a one tog gro bag then a sheet tucked round her feet to stope her falling out of bed. Off to buy a fan today and will use the tip fro the keep cool thread about putting a bowl of ice cubes near the fan.

Bettymum · 01/07/2009 15:48

Cool bath, then nappy and a vest for 17 month old DD. Every window in the house open wide in the evenings to try and let all the heat out, before DD goes to bed, and I'm leaving windows on the latch and curtains shut in the day to try and keep it coolish.
Phew, what a scorcher!

Fruitysunshine · 01/07/2009 16:30

DD is 22 months and lately she has been wearing just a nappy with a sheet over the top. I leave the small window open but leave the larger two on the vent latch as I am paranoid she gets out or somebody gets in!

She is not coping very well today with the heat. Her hair is quite damp mostly and she is drinking water like it is going out of fashion. I'm only taking her out before 11 and after 4pm as it is so blooming hot here. Currently in the early 30's!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 01/07/2009 16:33

DS1 5 - nothing under a light duvet kicked off!
DS2 - nappy and vest under a light duvet.

Windows open until midnight when DH comes to bed then closed.

During the day we are managing to keep the house at about 23 by closing all doors and windows. It is 31 outside at the moment, windows will be opened at bathtime to let a breeze through the house.

shinyshoes · 01/07/2009 16:34

DD Is 17 months old and it's either a vest and nappy or a loose fitting t-shirt, nothing on her legs.

wasabipeanut · 01/07/2009 16:38

Nappy, sleeveless vest and the thinnest cotton PJ shorts for my 21 mo. I was popping in late at night and putting a sheet over him but have stopped even that.

He has been ok. Been waking wanting a beaker of water in the night but after he has had that he nods off again.

Colonelcupcake · 01/07/2009 17:12

DS1 (2.6) Nothing (dry at night mostly)
DS2 (1.6) Just a nappy

difficultdecision · 03/07/2009 09:41

18m DS is currently sporting the lastest in the line of fashionable bedtime attire - his nappy.

We've got blackout blinds up which make it hot but windows open behind with jackloc's to stop anyone getting in or out.

He's currently still sleeping like a baby at 09.40 (which he never did as a baby!)
