Why does ds go to the corner or hide when doing a poo?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone had any advise.

He is only 17 months old so still in nappies, but every time he needs a poo he goes behind the sofa, in a corner, up the side of the book shelf etc, to do one. You can always tell when he is doing it.
If he is bare bummed at the time i lift him to the toilet and he doesn't finish there, but as soon as we leave the loo he goes to find a hiding space to finish.

Thanks

My ds does this too, he takes himself off to the hallway and stands (conveniently) outside the bathroom door like this

I ask him if he's done a poo and he goes "eh!" (yes) which I find very cute as its his first and only word so far.

It is mostly boys doing it!

No, my dd goes into cupboards, the larder, under tables etc... And like OP she is 3 plus and potty training. I am on the verge of putting her back in nappies.

My DS (2.9) does this. I assumed it was so I wouldn't realise he was doing it and change his nappy! (seems to be an issue for him!)

just thought how hard is the poo if it is at all, it might be because he has to strain This is exactly what my friends daughter did when she was constipated. I think that you can sit a child on the loo fairly young say 21/2 as there are many very safe seats now so they wont fall off then they get used to the seat and pooing and soon learn to associate one with the other.

both my DSs did (do) this too...

DS used to crawl under the dining table to do his.

My DD goes behind the settee to poo in her nappy. The funny thing is that if you ask her if she's done a poo she will vehemently deny it despite the 'fragant' smell that tells us otherwise
