Is there anything I can do for very bad nappy rash? Poor love is sore!

Dd (16mos) has terrible nappy rash and I don't know what else to do. She's only had it a couple of days but it doesn't seem to be improving much. It's really red and spotty but only seems to bother her when I change her and have to use wipes, so I suppose that's something. Any suggestions? I am:

Changing nappy more often
Letting her have some time in the garden with no nappy
Slathering Sudocrem on

I'm using Huggies wipes and my friend (ooh we have such interesting conversations) reckons they've changed them recently, could it be that, more chemicals or something? Anyone else had probs with them? TIA for any advice.

I've found Bepanthen very good, also kamillosan-for breastfeeding really, but works wonders on nappy rash-I suppose the same as the chamomille tea.

as far as the red spots go, it sounds like a bit of a fungal infection - dd used to get this when in nappies - and we were advised by HV to use clotromizole cream ( you can get it over the counter or on prescription)thinly applied 2-3 times a day for a few days then barrier cream on top. Metanium worked wonders for dd.But the spots do imply a fungal rash, harmless but needs the antifungal cream IMO.

If you suspect it is fungal I would get it diagnosed though and ask them to take a swab! DD really suffered when younger despite washable wipes and all the precautions. Teething triggered the prob for us but she needed different medication at different times due to different bacterial infections from her gut. Poor thing. Hope your lo is better soon.
