Help! I am at the end of my tether!

DS has just turned 5 months, and I am still EBFing, he feeds about every 4 hours and once between 7am - 7pm (time varies). During the last week or so he has been doing a rather vinegary, sometimes green, sometimes mucousy poo almost every hour. I went to health visitor just before Christmas and she said it was teething and I should drink more fluid... It seems to be getting worse, and he has a slight nappy rash now...

I guess what I am asking is has anyone out there experienced this, how long did it go on for, and will there be a tooth at the end of it?! Does this happen for every tooth?

He seems happy enough otherwise (apart from other signs of teething), but I don't want to miss him having a stomach bug or something more serious. I have been using washables (bumgenius), do you think these might make the rash worse?

Thanks for any advice out there - and sorry for long post!

Sounds like teething to me I'm afraid, and it's a recurring thing (well, was with us). Nappy rash is very common, and washables won't contribute any more than disposables would. If you're worried about that, you can always get some silk liners? A good barrier type cream, and if it gets to the point where the skin's broken (sorry to scare you but worst case) then beaten egg-white makes a quick-drying second skin to protect from more aggravation.

HTH...

Sorry, to make it clear, nappy rash is very common with teething... Astonishingly acidic poo DS had... Teething only time I couldn't apply the 'well if it looks like any kind of mustard he's still alright' test.

thank you, that makes me feel better - and i will def try the silk liners and egg white if i have to...

urgh yes, the acid poo is common with teething. Urgh, it will pass though.

I'm sure this has been said many times before but I don't know what I'd do without MN!
