What do you think is the BEST nappy rash cream/other cure? Please, am baffled.

Dd 7 mo has been sore for literally months.

I am airing her at every possible opportunity.

I don't use wipes.

I use Bepanthen- seems to ease it a bit. Organic people baby salve, the same.

Melatin(sp?), she reacted to badly.

It's not fungal.

It's at its worse around her leg openings iyswim.

Just constant redness, sometimes bad othertimes slight.

I really want to clear it up for her.

She has been teething the whole time.

I use Bepanthen, so can't recommend anything else, but have you tried a different brand of nappy? My DS1 always got nappy rash in pampers, but was much better in tesco / huggies.

metanium

wash with plain water/camomile/red bush tea. soak paper liners in aforementioned tea and stick over sore parts.

lots of fresh air.

Right here is my suggestion courtesy of my fab HV. Use your usual cream but put a thick layer of vasaline over it. This insures that wee does not wash the antiseptic 'nappy rash cream' away. Works a treat for my two on stubborn nappy rash.

It was metanium that she reacted to.

I used to use metanium if nappy rash got bad. Apparently, egg white is meant to be good - I heard that this is used on neonatal units - well I read it ages ago on Mumsnet!

oh no, was going to rant about how fantastic Metanium is, damn, sorry to hear she reacted badly to it.

Be careful not to plaster too much stuff on her bottom, I was told that it can clog up the absorbancy of the nappy, therefore all the wee sits against her skin causing irritation. Agree that Vaseline is a good idea, but a thin layer IMO

Have you heard the egg white theory. It worked wonders with my DD earlier this yr when she had such bad nappy rash her bottom was bleeding.

Sudocream - very good and works very quickly. Apply every nappy change when there is a rash. Also i found that the type of nappy makes a large difference too. Tescos were really good but pampers just brought it on.

I assume you just smear it on - I don't assume you brush it on!

We tried egg whites - we had no cream and ds developed bad nappy rash during the night and we found out about egg whites on the internet. It seemed to soothe him till we got some cream in the morning (metanium i'm afraid, works mega quickly) don't know if it is a cure but it did seem to help a bit.

Silver liners can work really well sometimes.

sudocrem works every time for us but have you thought about it being thrush?
GP can prescribe a reaaly good cream called timodine which is nystatin and hydrocortisone. If the nappy rash has lasted so long it might not be just nappy rash
as for the open to the air thing well.......
having taught wound care we now know that for wounds to heal they need to be kept moist and warm so the airing thing is very old hat and not good either.

I took my son to the GP the one time he suffered nappy rash - it was during a time when he was teething and had mild diaorreah. He prescribed something with a mild hydrocortisone and antifungal treatment in it and it worked in three days! I was reluctant to take him because I thought it would be a waste of time but was so glad I did. Sorry I can't remember the name of it but it was fantastic.

Boots Zinc and castor oil is good my son has bad eczema and reaccts to everything else.

Also try changing nappies we can't use huggies/asda/aldi/pampers. So we stick to Tesco/Lidl's and Boots.

Oh and also the air thing has always worked for us too.

Yes I think it was Timodine Andiem - I tried everything else at the time and nothing worked. The skin started to crack and I felt so sorry for my little boy. I was reluctant to use a hydrocortisone but as I only needed to use it for three days I couldn't see it would do any harm - I applied it really thinly as the doctor suggested and it worked so quickly. I cant remember him having nappy rash again because I threw the rest of the tube away.

Weleda calendula cream. Bit hippy but actually worked better than anything else I tried

I have found zinc and castor oil cream to be the only thing that works. If the rash has persisted for ages, I would take your dd to the gp and get her checked over. My ds had to have some prescription cream for a while (can't actually remember why now). Otherwise, a good fat slick of zinc and castor oil seems to be the biz.

i have 2 kids and only used sudocrem which is widely available in almost all stores.they both never had a serious rash, no matter how long their dirty nappy stays on them.which is never too long!!

Me giving up dairy (dd was breastfed) was the only way we could clear her nappy rash, as it turned out to be a symptom of her milk intolerance.

weleda calendula nappy cream...amazing and smells LUSH...if that doesn't work them hyperical (hypericam and calendula cream..in a small green tube) is brilliant. i havde given this to every friend who has had a baby ...it is a miracle cream
