I have an 8 year old soon to be 9 and he still does not sleep on his own, he has suddenly started with anxiety in the night. I am due to have a baby in a few months and wondering how to navigate! He has gone through stages of sleeping on his own, when he was 7 he slept fine, but always ends up going back to not. He's been like this since he was born and I genuinely think its his personality. I often wonder if it was my fault when he was a young baby because we struggled with cry it out, but, he's always been so stubborn etc and he cried for 3 hours once when he was about 1 year old. It is so hard in the middle of the night, I have given up persisting because once I tried for 3 weeks every night sitting at the end of the bed, walking off and was knackered.

Basically asking if anyone else has been in a similar position and it just worked and wanting some success stories or advice..

I am a single parent and I have 2 children with a 4 year gap. Neither slept on their own for years. Like you I tried. My advice would be get a bigger bed! It all worked out in the end. They’re young adults now. Both just naturally moved to their own rooms aged about 11. I stopped fighting it one night when they were both very little and I was battling with tears from both. I guess as a single parent there was more room in the bed though! Once I stopped stressing about it we all got lots more sleep. I did worry that they’d never leave but they both just naturally opted for that eventually. My advice would be enjoy the cuddles and try not to worry about it.

Just popping by to say the same as @MagicHouseabout all sleeping together. My family thought I was terrible for letting Ds sleep in with me. He’s nearly 14 and he’s not still in with me now and co-sleeping didn’t ruin him (despite what my dm said to my face & behind my back) & did give him the reassurance he needed to sleep soundly.

doesn’t help you with the logistics of having a new baby in the mix though sorry!
