I need help naming my daughter, we have two names which we love but i cant decide between the two. the options are Elsie or Penelope, for Elsie I worry that may be too common and overused and for Penelope I dont love it shortened to Pen or Penny, although I like "P" its driving me crazy that she still hasn't got a name. please help!!!

Around where I live, there’s more Penelope’s than Elsie’s.

I think Elsie is overused, and it's easy if anyone tries to shorten just say, oh it's Penelope not penny / nelly.

Eloise?

I love Penelope! You could tell people not to shorten it or use something like Nell or Nellie.

Sorry but I think Penelope is such an ugly name. It's my mum's name and she hates it. It's also inexplicably popular. Elsie is cute.

Penelope is lovely. Millions of Elsie's round here - it is still number 16 in the most popular names so likely to be more than one in a year group at school if that bothers you.

If you don’t like Pen or Penny then avoid Penelope! You might try to start off with “P” but once she’s at school you have no control over what she/her friends call her. I’d rather go for a popular choice than have a nickname I don’t like.

Penelope is lovely. Is Persephone too much?
Vivenne? Emmeline?

I saw your thread title and before I clicked it the name Penelope came into my mind, now I’ve seen your two options I think it is definitely the right choice.

nocoolnamesleft · Yesterday 22:56

Of those two, definitely prefer Penelope. It’s a classic for a reason.

TheEarlofButties · Yesterday 23:01

I changed my mind, Nellie as a nn for Penelope is very cute!

goodnightssleepbenice · Yesterday 23:04

How about Eloise or Elise instead ? Not keen on Penelope and Elsie is quite common atm

pinkpony88 · Yesterday 23:06

If you choose Penelope please don’t shorten it to Pee… 😬

SummerInSun · Yesterday 23:06

Or Eloise - I know two little girls with that name but it’s still pretty unusual.
