My kids dad only sees them once a week

Is this acceptable in your eyes? 1 night a week, no other communication in the week, doesnt see them during week or asks about them. It went from 8 night a month, to 6 and now 4. He says he’s having to drop it to once a week coz hes tired after work but so am I? Yet I have to be a mum!!! They are 2 and 6. I’m always constantly asking him if he wants to have the kids or see them but always excuses

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You can't really force someone to be a decent parent.
Adjust expectations.
Get child maintenance recalculated.
This arrangement is easier on children and better for you to set a good daily routine.
Don't get into arguments 'I don't want children with me.'

Betterversionofme · 05/10/2026 16:29

You can't control others behaviour.

Of course isn't good parenting but you can do nothing.

You might want try NOT to start conversations with your children about whether they 'want' to see their father. And respond very 'carefully' if they start. And not discuss arrangements too much with them.
It could be 'mum days', 'dad day'.
Are they sad? Oooh baby, so sorry you are sad, it's mum day. It will be dad day soon again.
You can also give them a desert 🍰🧁🎂🍩🍪🍿🧋as soon as they come back from their father, like first think. Good trifle! But no other times. Make them associate coming back to you with as desert, not with leaving fun with their dad. I assume their father doesn't do their laundry, doesn't take them down doctors, he is a fun dad.

It’s just sad for them that he could see them more and chose not to and only has them 1 night. I would never say those things to my Children but it angers me how he could make more effort and chooses not to

Mine got taken out for an hour every Wednesday for a Mcdonalds, that was it. They're adults now and they know who raised them. You can't force him to have them.

It’s hard when family situations change, especially when the kids are so young. I think keeping things stable for them and making sure they feel loved by both parents is what matters most.
As they get older, I also think it’s important to keep an eye on their online safety. I’ve come across apps like Bark and Google Family Link, and I personally use the Xnspy parental monitoring app to keep track of my child’s phone activity. Every family is different, but the kids’ wellbeing should always come first.

Split 7 years ago. Exh only sees his daughter 2 nights every 6 weeks or so now. No communication in between and she’s 11. She’s just wising up to how shit he is as a dad

Doesn't sound like it's hard for HIM. Feckless twat.

I’d love that, wish my ex would have them 1 night a week, thats better than a lot of mums get

strictlybusinessuntildecember · 09/10/2026 16:53

My ex husband sees our (well let’s be honest - mine for all intents and purposes) children for 3 hours per month
