Hi,

I wanted to hear your views on using screens as a distraction for younger children to keep them entertained.
Sometimes it seems like the easiest option but how often do you use screens to entertain your kids?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

What do you consider to be younger children? And what do you mean by screens? Not everyone considers watching a movie together to be screen time, but they would consider using an app on a phone.

Assuming by your username you're developing something? Personally I don't see iPad games for children suitable below 7. I do let my DC watch a limited amount of TV a day, under an hour, and use it strategically to get vegetables in to them or chores done. I see that as very different to gaming, which I feel needs more regulations.

My child is turning 3, and I got her an iPad. We are only using it for preschool stuff.

I think youve worded your question badly, no one wants to admit to using screens as distraction.

Or maybe its just me?

I never use screens to distract a child. They need to learn to deal with whatever is in front of them. Using a screen as a pacifier is really bad parenting in my book.

My kids do use screens as entertainment and for education.

Probably about 10 hours a week. They are all late primary / early secondary.

@dairydebristthay Did 😆 I am kinda the same; she will get 30 min when she turns 3

You missed a voting option for age 5ish. Nothing before then! Then only for YouTube not scrolling.

@newmommy2006yay you should stop on the screen for 3 year old. You can look it up but there is a ton of research to show kids aren't absorbing learning from screens at that age. They need books, pens and papers and a human talking to them.

Thank God I didn't buy any of the apps 😅 @MyKindHiker
