Has anyone had any luck with a private fussy eating specialist for their child? my DS is 7 and is a very fussy eater, we have a rota of around 12 foods he'll eat. We've just come back from 2 weeks all inclusive and we think he may have lost weights as school clothes seem lose on him and he literally wouldnt eat anything but pizza, pringles and burgers even though the food was amazing. He literally wouldnt try anything new and was not interested in food at all, he actually said this morning that eating is weird, think we need
some help at this point as nothing works

Birmingham Food Refusal Service. Any books by Dr Gillian Harris ( she leads the service ) or Dr Liz Shea
Our daughter saw these wonderful psychologists as part of a documentary. One of their books is dedicated to her.
12 foods wouldn’t be considered “ very fussy” especially if not brand specific.
What will he eat at home/ school?

Thank you for responding. The 12 foods are limited i.e likes ham sandwiches but only 1 specific brand of ham, likes hot dogs but only certain sausages. No veg at all in his diet. He doesnt like any crisps/ any form of potato product at all, never ate a chip.
Will only eat plain pasta. Its really hard as sometimes he says he's not hungry but is clearly getting aggy as he's clearly hangry. My family say i should just give him the food he wants everyday and chill about it but its hard as that would be pepperoni pizza for every meal. We have to tell people in advance of playdates not to be offended if he doesn eat. I feel at a loss tbh. He was awful on holiday and it caused so much stress. Will check out those resources

Have you investigated ARFID? Current advice is to let them eat their safe foods - it might take the pressure off for a while.

Our daughter had a diagnosis of ARFID ( and autism and SPD) we stopped going to hotels as she wouldn’t have eaten anything. We went to cottages instead and took her safe foods. Her restricted diet was exceptionally limited.
PP is right feed safe foods.
Also look at Interoception. May not know he’s hungry.

I would recommend Angharad Banner.

She was excellent with my oldest. She was horrendously fussy as a toddler but it has improved. My friend also saw her with her son and she diagnosed AFRID.

We just tried a cruise holiday and there were so many types of food but she largely ate the same thing most days (but was better than i anticipated). 90% of our holidays are self catering as a result. I generally find her eating much more varied at home than out of the house.

She is also similar with brands eg will only ear tesco finest sausages.
